Lucky
Hi, my name is Lucky, and I am a Tennessee Walker. My dark brown color is called Bay. I am a handsome, sweet, easy going young 16-year-old gelding. I stand 16 hands tall and weigh a slimming 1000 pounds. I look like a racehorse because, when I work, I wear a face mask. This is because I have trouble seeing. The mask assists me with keeping the shadows away. I also get help from my best friend Moon. Moon is not only my best friend, but he is also my seeing eye horse. He assists me by walking in front of me and directing where I need to go!!
I love living/working at O.A.T.S. There is nothing like taking care of my riders and because of my unique smooth gait, I am a favorite ride with riders of all ages and abilities. |
Moon
I’m Moon and I was named for the crescent moon marking on my forehead. I started out in life as a show horse and won many accolades. When it came time for me to retire, my owners told me that I would be a great therapy horse because I was so kind and easygoing. I had to agree with them…plus I wasn’t ready to retire.
I’m what is known as a Tennessee Walker. Walkers are known for our very smooth gaits, and this helps make my riders feel extra safe. In addition, my sweet nature and even-tempered attitude makes me a perfect mount for some of our youngest riders. I take a lot of pride that O.A.T.S. trusts me with this important job. I love to be the first horse that a child rides, or when I am able to reassure someone who is timid. I do my best to carry them carefully to help build their confidence. What do I ask for in return? Just some scratches or pats on the neck. |
Outlaw
Howdy Ya’ll. My name is Outlaw. I’m a Tennessee Walker. Want me to let you in on a little secret? Ready? Here it goes. I’m just messin’ with you when I use this here Southern accent. Though my ancestors came from the South, I was actually born here in Michigan and have always lived here. People just expect me to have an accent when they hear the word, “Tennessee”. I’m a true Midwestern boy through and through.
Here at O.A.T.S. I have developed a reputation of being a wee bit naughty and difficult to deal with. In reality though, I am actually a very sensitive guy. I just need my people to be strong for me and a little patient. Just ask Jake, my best buddy. He and I love hanging out and eating hay and we talk about the trouble I get into a lot. He knows I like to be a prankster, and he warns me about the trouble I can get into. Since coming to O.A.T.S., I have learned that I have a very important job. See, sometimes people have a difficult time in their lives or special challenges that they need to deal with. I learned from the other horses what this means, and I have become a great listener and provider of support to help them get through these moments. What a wonderful feeling I get knowing I have made a difference in someone’s life. |
Jake
I am very pleased to have the opportunity to tell you about myself. My name is Jake, and I live at O.A.T.S., an equine therapy facility that works with children and adults with disabilities. I am a 18-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse. I am primarily black with white on my back lower legs and a white stripe that runs from my forehead to my nose. I’m also known for having a calm disposition and naturally smooth riding gait.
Tennessee Walkers are best known for our running-walk. This makes me the perfect horse for riders who require constant movement. I am patient and work well with our volunteer leaders. When I’m not working, I enjoy hanging out with the donkeys, mini horses and my best friend, Outlaw. I would greatly appreciate your support and would love for you to visit me and my friends at O.A.T.S.! |
