Eagle Scout Project Helps Secure O.A.T.S.
Eagle Scout Nate Beutler of Troop 185 in Clarkston, MI chose O.A.T.S. as the beneficiary of his Eagle Scout Project. Nate helped as a volunteer for Vivien Burke's Eagle Scout Project and was inspired to help O.A.T.S. as well. After a tour of the farm and discussing the various need here at O.A.T.S. Nate chose to install a gate at the front of the farm. While some gates are installed with the intent to keep people out, the gate Nate installed was built with the intent to keep people and animals safe inside our farm.
While it is not a regular occurrence at our farm, horses are known to escape from their pastures from time to time. When it does happen here, it is usually one of our Haflingers (Sam, Ernie, or Elf) making a break for some delicious grass. As we all know, that grass is so much greener on the other side of the fence. However, when a horse is loose outside of it's pasture the potential for danger increases. Without a gate securing the farm, it is possible that a loose horse could wander out of the farm and onto Groveland Rd. causing a dangerous situation.
After carefully planning out his project, determining which materials to use along with their associated costs, Nate submitted his project for approval and began fundraising for his project. In August, Nate broke ground on his Eagle Scout Project. Twenty-two volunteers consisting of scouts, friends and family worked for a combined 114 hours to finish Nate's project.
We, at O.A.T.S., would like to extend our thanks to Nate Beutler for his hard work and kind contribution to our organization.
Congratulations on earning the rank of Eagle Scout!
