Blue
Hello there. I am Blue. That’s just my name (my full name is actually Mr. Blue Macho). I feel great! I am an American Quarter Horse. American Quarter Horses are short distance racehorses and farm workers. I am not a racehorse. I do not like to go fast. I mosey everywhere. If you want me to trot, you have to mean it! I used to be a cutting horse. No, I can’t use scissors, but I used to move some cattle away from the rest so they could be looked at or used by their owners. Now that I am at O.A.T.S, I help riders feel confident and stable. I am picky about who cuddles me. I will let anyone jump on for a calm ride around the arena or on the trail. Watch out though, I might snack on the way! I am not the biggest in my pasture, but I rule it with a gentle hoof. I make sure the other horses stay in line when it is time to come in for breakfast or to work. I also protect them when I sense any danger. Mickey is a lot bigger than me, but I am still his boss.

Mickey
Hi! My name is Mickey. I am 14 years old and I am a Warmblood. That means that I am a cross between a Thoroughbred and a Percheron. I am the tallest horse at O.A.T.S. – I am over 17 hands tall. My favorite thing to do is eat doughnuts. I have spent most of my life as a show horse. I really like to jump but my mom likes to make me do dressage. I find it to be quite boring, I would prefer to run through a field and jump over logs. These days I spend most of my day hanging out in the sunshine eating yummy green grass. I really enjoy rolling in the mud after I get a bath, that really makes my day. But now I have a new job and I really like it. I help people build muscle by riding me so they can walk better. It makes me happy when we can take long walks and I make them smile.

Elf
Hi! I am Elf. I am a Halflinger. I am taller than other Halflingers so I don’t get to be a pony. But I have a special job of carrying riders who like to have fun. I have heard my riders say that it feels like riding a couch when they ride me. They must really love me! I have silly looking ears because of how I was born. They don’t change how I am able to do my job, though. They just make me more loveable. I love to play and hold things with my mouth. I like to give kisses and nibbles. I don’t mean to hurt anyone; I just want to play with everyone…even my pasture mates! I love to hang out in the pasture with my herd and munch on hay. When they come to clean my pasture, I like to supervise. Sometimes, I even pick up a rake and help out. I was an Amish horse, but the other horses didn’t treat me well. I got to come to O.A.T.S where everyone loves me! I felt so welcomed here at O.A.T.S. and even became Mayor of Oxford. I know that this is where I truly belong!

Ernie
My name is Ernie and I am a Haflinger pony. I grew up with my owner Bethany and we used to go to horse shows where I would show off how beautiful and talented I am. But then my little girl grew up and moved away. Now I get to enjoy my retirement from the show ring at O.A.T.S, where I get to have little girls and boys love on me again! Nothing makes me happier than helping kids to learn to ride. I am great at building their confidence even though I can be a bit anxious myself.
I love jumping over things; I think it’s because I am small and like to prove to the other horses that I too can do anything they can do. My brother Mickey lives here at O.A.T.S. with me. We are not biological brothers, but we have been part of each other’s lives for 13 years. Wow, I cannot believe I am old enough to have known my brother for that long. Anyway, Mickey and I enjoy eating hay and grass together. Sometimes he can be a little pushy, but I am the little brother, so I do not get mad at him. At O.A.T.S I know that my work is important, and I help so many kids and adults get stronger, both mentally and physically. I am so happy I live at O.A.T.S with my brother and that we get to do so much good in this world. |
Sam
Hi there! My name is Sam. I am very pleased to tell you all about myself. I am a beautiful, loving horse. I am a Halflinger. That is a kind of funny name for a breed, but it describes me a bit. I am kind of half-way between pony and horse! I like to run and play together with my pasture mates between nibbles of hay. I am short so I am good for smaller riders. But I am strong so I can hold larger ones too. I love hugs and scratches under my forelock—that is like my bangs. I can be a bit pushy about getting my breakfast, but I bet you are too! I am very good at my job of carrying special riders around in the indoor or outdoor arenas. I also like a good trail walk. Watch out if you take me in an open field though. I feel so free and I LOVE to run and play. When I first arrived at O.A.T.S, I wasn’t so friendly. But my people really love me and they taught me to do better. Now, I am a favorite horse for riders and handlers alike. I know who is leading me, so I am careful when it is a smaller person.
