Moon is a Tennessee Walking Horse who has been with OATS for a very long time. He is a farm favorite, gentle, polite man. Moon loves his sugar free treats, long grooming sessions, and fresh hay. His best buddy is Outlaw.
Outlaw is also a Tennessee Walking Horse. His bold white stripes against his dark brown coat make him look like his name. Don't let him fool you, though. He is a gentle spirit like his bestie, Moon.
Peewee is a young Quarter Horse whose speed suggests he's actually 80. It might take a bit to get this young man moving, but once he does, he is a gentle ride with a fun trot.
Parker (sometimes called Parker Joe) is the mutt of the barnyard. An appendix mix of Thoroughbred, Quarter horse, and maybe some Warmblood. Parker has a gentle personality. His favorite thing is checking your pockets for treats and getting scritches by his ears. Parker is one of the few horses at the barn who can still jump!
Grace is a gentle spirit in a large body! She is a Quarter horse and Draft, making her a perfect horse for lots of different riders. With a super smooth trot, Grace is now used to the farm and patient with her riders--old and new alike.
Liberty is the only full Draft horse on the farm now. Her 18.3 hand height is impressive and a bit intimidating. Despite her size, she is one of the gentlest horses. Like dogs, big horses are calmer while smaller ones tend to be a bit feistier. Liberty is the perfect beginner horse if you can get over her size!
Elf is the character of the barn. At 24, most horses have calmed down and are gentle and docile. Elf is still a kid at heart--and attitude! His ears are a different shape, so he doesn't hear as well as other horses. Instead, he uses his mouth to learn about his surroundings. As a Halflinger, Elf is one of OATS's thicker friends, but don't let his size fool you! He can still go fast!
Tootsie is OATS's only Arabian horse. Arabians are often a bit spicy, but Tootsie is a gentle lady. At 24, she is one of our oldest horses. Despite her age and previous injuries (before coming to OATS), she can still canter and jump small jumps.
Henry is OATS's beloved Norwegian Fjord. One of our dedicated volunteers answered the call for a shorter, younger, stockier horse and donated him in 2024. Despite his size, Henry is a gentleman--most of the time.Â
Bluff is a Thoroughbred who used to compete in racing! She even won some small prizes. Her owner donated her to OATS in 2022. At first, she needed to be in front so she thought she was winning. Now, she is comfortable at the barn and with the people and happily joins classes in any spot. A favorite horse for many at OATS due to her sometimes stubborn, but always sweet nature.
Fame is a beautiful, paint, Saddlebred horse. Saddlebreds are fancy when you ride them and like to park themselves when they know it is time to stop. Lifting their legs high while walking and trotting, they stretch out a bit when standing so they look regal. Fame wears a special collar to help him keep his teeth safe, too.
Goose is a silly name for a horse, but this guy is what we call a "flea-bitten" grey color. This just means his coat is light grey with darker grey spots all over. Goose is a Quarter horse. It took us a bit of time and trial-and-error to learn about his needs. Accidentally, we learned that he likes his reins clipped on UNDER his chin. Maybe because he used to run barrels. Once we learned about Goose, he has been fitting right into program.
Little Whiz is a tiny Quarter Horse with a big personality. Don't let his small stature fool you, Whiz can wiz on by...when he wants to. Usually slow in classes, this former reiner can still canter! Reining is a special skill used with cattle horses and Whiz remembers his former job and still spins in fast circles when you tell him to.
Ollie is one of our little ponies. As a pony, he is a bit energetic and spicy sometimes. A strong hand while riding or leading is necessary, but he responds well when he knows you're safe! OATS's tallest pony, Ollie likes to hang out with our miniature horses, Tina and Bunny, too.
Little Joe is a newcomer to OATS. He arrived in the summer of 2025. Joe is a Hackney pony who used to pull carts. We are hoping he can help teach us how, too. His adorable little spots and tiny ears coupled with his sweet disposition make him a farm favorite.
