O.A.T.S. featured on PBS' A Wider World

On Tues., May 14, Detroit channel WTVS aired a segment on O.A.T.S. that was filmed last month for A Wider World. You can find other PBS stations from around the country that air A Wider World on this list. Formerly known as Disabilities Today, the show "focuses on inspirational tales, stigma busting, cutting edge treatment options and assisting technology, veterans issues, sports, and other stories that celebrate the resilience of the human spirit and the abilities of all." You can check out previous segments on YouTube. Many thanks to A Wider World for visiting O.A.T.S.!

Workday scheduled for Jun. 1

Join us on Sat., Jun. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help clean up and fix up O.A.T.S. You get pizza and pop; we get some much-needed work done. Many hands make light work, so we hope to see you here.

Hooray for heroes

Our first Horses for Heroes session has concluded and it was a great success. Thanks to the General Motors Veteran's Affinity Group and O.A.T.S., eight veterans enjoyed the many benefits of therapeutic horseback riding and the smiles it brings. What makes this program even more special is that the class volunteers are veterans themselves, helping their fellow veterans. We're looking forward to the next session. If you're a wounded warrior interested in riding, or a veteran interested in volunteering, please contact O.A.T.S. at 248.620.1775. You can read more about the program in this story by Sharon Greene that ran in The Oakland Press (PDF).

  • We'd like to thank another hero: Eagle Scout Chris Donohue of Boy Scout Troop 185 in Waterford Township, who built a lean to for our horses at O.A.T.S. for his Eagle project. You can read more about Chris in this article. Much appreciation to Chris and all the Eagle Scouts who have done so many wonderful things for O.A.T.S.
